BadgeOS Submission and Nomination Add-on - Overview

Installation / Setup Instructions:

The following are the step by step instructions to set up BadgeOS Nomination/Submission Addon.

  • Install the BadgeOS plugin & activate it.
  • Install the BadgeOS Nomination/Submission add-on and activate it.
  • Navigate to BadgeOS > Settings, and there will be a tab on the left menu on the General section.
  • Two new sub-menu entries of  “Submission Reviews” and “Nomination Reviews” are also added under the BadgeOS menu        

General Settings

Minimum Role to Administer :

This dropdown menu allows the admin to select what type of user role can access and use this plugin. If you want any teacher or Instructor to be able to import and export quizzes, you should select their respective role.

Send email when submissions/nominations are received:

Check this option if you want to send emails when submissions and nominations are received.

Make sure the “Email Preference” option is enabled from the user profile page.

Notification email addresses:

Enter the emails or emails separated by commas on which you want to send notifications for submissions and nominations.



Submission

If a user thinks that he is eligible to get a particular badge, he can submit it to apply for that specific badge. The submissions are two types, i.e., Submission (Reviewed) and Submission (Auto - Accepted), elaborated in the section below.

Submission Form

Using Shortcodes:-

  • Navigate to pages and click on ‘Add new.’
  • Click the Add BadgeOS Shortcode button. A pop up will appear.
  • Select the Submission form from the dropdown.
  • Select the achievement you want to award for this submission.
  • Click Insert Shortcode.
  • Publish the page.

A text box will appear on the front end where your users can submit the submission and earn a badge.

Using Blocks:-

If we are using Blocks Editor/Gutenberg, with the following method, we can add these Submission forms, Submission lists through blocks. 

  • Navigate to the desired post/page.
  • Click at the “Add Block” icon (+).
  • Scroll down to the “BadgeOS Block” or search “BadgeOS.”
  • Expand the section.
  • Select the “Submission Form - Block.”


  • Set up the Submission Form - Block from the right sidebar.

  • Publish/Update.

Submission List

Using Shortcodes:-

To add the submission list to any page, follow these steps:

  • Add New Page.
  • Click the Add BadgeOS Shortcode button. A pop up will appear.

  • Select the Submission List from the dropdown.
  • Configure the options for the submission list.
  • Click Insert Shortcode.
  • Publish the page.

Using Blocks:-

To add Submission List - Block on any post/page, please follow these steps:

  • Navigate to the desired post/page.
  • Click at the “Add Block” icon (+).
  • Scroll down to the “BadgeOS Block” or search “BadgeOS.”
  • Expand the section.
  • Select the “Submission List - Block.”
  • Set up the Submission List - Block from the right sidebar.
  • Publish/Update.

How to create Achievements for Submission

To add a new achievement for submission follows these steps:

  • Navigate to the desired Achievement type. For example, if you created 'Badge',’ you need to click on the Badge item in the menu on your left.
  • Click Add New.
  • Add Title and Description.

Points Awarded

  • If you would like to reward your users with points every time they receive a badge, you can set this up in this field.

You can also use this option to deduct the selected points type on the earning of that specific achievement. You have to insert the desired negative value, for example, -50 for the Point Awarded field and select the point types from the dropdown.

Earned by

Earned by option shows how this achievement can be obtained.

There are two options for Submissions, namely:

  • Submission (Reviewed)

      If your students submit a specific task, for example, an essay or attach a PDF file, and you would like to review it first and then award them with a badge, you need to select Earned by option as Submission (Reviewed).


  • Submission (Auto-accepted)

Select Earned by option as Submission (Auto-accepted). Submission auto accepted achievement can be achieved by submitting the submission without any need to approve the submission by the admin. All submissions are found, in BadgeOS > Submissions Reviews.

Note: Users can also save their submission as a draft by clicking Save Draft and can submit later.

Show Earners

Checking this option will display a list of users on the front-end who have earned this achievement.

Congratulations Text

This field shows the text displayed after earning an achievement.

Maximum Earnings

  • This field defines the maximum number of times an achievement can be awarded. For example, if you decide to award a badge every time your student comments on a post, you can limit how many badges they can get for commenting. In other words, if you specify 10 in this field, it will mean that your user can only get ten badges for this activity. 

If you don’t want to limit the number of badges for this activity, insert ‘-1’ or leave the field empty.

Hidden

If the selected option is Hidden to User, then it will hide the achievement from the user. The hidden achievement won’t be listed in the Achievement list, and it will also be hidden on the BadgeOS Earned User Achievement widget even after earning the achievement. The hidden earned achievement can only be seen in the user profile from the admin panel.

Allow Attachment for Submission

This option is only used with submissions. It allows attachment on the submission if checked.

The attachment file can be attached to the submission.

Frontend:

Attachment are found at BadgeOS > Submissions Review

Open the submission review and find the attachment file placed at the end of the submission review.

Allow Attachment for Submission Comment

  • This option can only be used with submissions. It allows attachment to the comments of the submission.

Frontend:

Open Badge Options

This setting makes the earned badge for this achievement shareable on social networks, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Mozilla Backpack, or the badge earner's blog or site.

Follow these steps:

  • Select Yes for Enable Badge Baking field. 
  • In the Criteria field, the badge URL is automatically added once you publish or update the badge/post.
  • Select Yes for Include Evidence field.
  • Set Expiration.

Submission reviews

As an admin, you can find all submissions of your students at BadgeOS > Submission reviews. This is where all the submissions from your students/users live. You will use this field when you’d like to review the work your students/users submitted and Approve or Deny the submission.


Before you can see these submissions, you will need to allow your students to send the file for you on the front-end. To do so, you will need to do three parts:

  1. Create a badge that will be awarded for submissions;
  2. Create a page and add a form so that your students can submit a task or add a form to an existing page;
  3. Find the submission in the ‘Submission Review’ field.

From the submission details, you have a quick look at the information the user submitted, attachments, date, status, and an achievement awarded for this submission. 

Submission status:

When the submission is pending, you can approve or reject it.

When the submission is approved, you can change it to rejected.

When the submission is rejected or revoked, you can mark it as pending again.

Nominations

If a user/student thinks that another user/student is deserving and eligible for a badge, he can nominate the eligible user/student to get that badge. The user who nominates another user won’t earn the achievement, but the user that is being nominated receives this achievement. The nomination requires the admin’s approval before earning.

Nomination Form

Using Shortcodes:-

To add the Nomination form, follow these steps:

  • Navigate to pages and click on ‘Add new.,’
  • Click Add BadgeOS Shortcode button. A pop up will appear.
  • Select the Nomination form from the dropdown.
  • Select any created achievement from the drop-down of field Achievement ID.
  • Click Insert Shortcode.
  • Publish the page.

Using Blocks:-

To add Nomination Form - Block on any post/page, please follow these steps:

  • Navigate to the desired post/page.
  • Click at the “Add Block” icon (+).
  • Scroll down to the “BadgeOS Block” or search “BadgeOS”.
  • Expand the section.
  • Select the “Nomination Form - Block.”
  • Set up the Nomination Form - Block from the right sidebar.
  • Publish/Update.

Using Shortcodes:-

To add the Nomination list, follow these steps:

  • Add New Page.
  • Click the Add BadgeOS Shortcode button. A pop up will appear.

  • Select the Nomination List from the dropdown.
  • Configure the options for the nomination list.
  • Click Insert Shortcode.
  • Publish the page.

  • Publish/Update.

How to create Achievements for Nomination

  • Navigate to the desired Achievement type. For example, if you created 'Badge',’ you need to click on the Badge item in the menu on your left.
  • Click Add New.

Nomination reviews

This is where all the nominations from your students/users live. You will use this field when you’d like to review the Nominations your students/users submitted and Approve or Deny the nomination.



Before you can see these nominations, you will need to allow your students to send the nomination for you on the front-end. To do so, you will need to do three parts:

  1. Create a badge that will be awarded for nominations;
  2. Create a page and add a form so that your students can submit a nomination;
  3. Find the nomination in the ‘Nomination Review’ field.

All the submitted nominations from the nomination form of the Nomination Achievements are found at B adgeOS > Nominations Reviews.

You will use this field when you’d like to review the nominations your students/users submitted and Approve or Deny the nominations.

Nomination status:

When the nomination is pending, you can approve or reject it.

When the nomination is approved, you can change it to rejected.
